Hindustan College Partners with MHFA India for Mental Health Awareness

Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) India is proud to share a meaningful milestone in its efforts to build mentally healthy educational institutions across the country. On August 12, 2022, MHFA India signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Hindustan College of Arts and Science, Kelambakkam, Tamil Nadu.

This collaboration marks a significant step in promoting prevention and early intervention strategies within academic environments. With rising mental health concerns among students and staff, the need for timely support and mental health literacy on campuses is more critical than ever. The MHFA™ training programs aim to address this gap by equipping individuals with the skills to recognize early signs of mental health challenges, provide immediate support, and guide those in need to appropriate professional help.

The MoU represents a shared commitment to building a culture of mental health awareness and collaboration in academic institutions. While this is not a formal integration of MHFA programs into the curriculum, the agreement opens avenues for mutual cooperation in areas such as mental health awareness, research, and knowledge exchange. The signing was accompanied by an engaging awareness session conducted by MHFA India for the faculty and students, aimed at initiating open conversations around mental health and well-being.

We extend our sincere appreciation to Dr. Susan Marthandan, Director of the institution, for her warm welcome, commitment to student well-being, and forward-thinking leadership. Her readiness to adopt structured mental health interventions reflects a growing recognition within academic institutions that mental health is foundational to learning, development, and overall success. At MHFA India, we believe that educational spaces have the power to lead the way in transforming how we approach mental health in society. This MoU represents more than just a formal agreement—it’s a shared commitment to nurturing environments where mental health is prioritized, stigma is reduced, and support is accessible to all.

We look forward to working closely with Hindustan College of Arts and Science to implement impactful mental health education initiatives and to inspire more institutions across India to follow suit. Together, let’s build a future where every campus is a safe and supportive space for mental well-being.
